Sony’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Sells Over 5 Million Copies in Just 11 Days

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the latest installment in the popular superhero series, has become one of the year’s best-selling games, with Sony revealing that it sold through more than 5 million copies in just 11 days after its exclusive release on PlayStation 5 on October 20.

The impressive sales figures make Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 one of the fastest-selling games in the PlayStation Studios lineup. The game’s success can be attributed to its well-received predecessors, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which built a strong fan base for the series.

Additionally, the game benefitted from the large and growing community of PlayStation 5 gamers, with Sony reporting that the console has surpassed 46.5 million units sold as of the latest financial quarter that ended on September 30. This significant user base contributed to the game’s rapid sales, solidifying its position as a top-selling title for the year.

Furthermore, Sony reported a strong second quarter in its Fiscal Year 2023, with the company selling 4.9 million PS5 consoles, which is 1.6 million more than the previous quarter. In addition, Sony sold through 4.7 million first-party games in the same quarter, with a total of 67.6 million PlayStation 4 and PS5 software units.

The company also noted that 67% of the games purchased for its PlayStation consoles during the quarter were digital downloads, reflecting the increasing trend of digital gaming among PlayStation users. Sony tracked 107 million monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, with 47.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers in the same time period.

With the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the continued growth of the PlayStation user base, Sony is well-poised to maintain its position as a leading player in the gaming industry.
